On October 27, 2026, President Donald Trump pushed for making daylight saving time permanent. He urged the Senate to act quickly before clocks in most of the U.S. go back on November 1.
During a rally in Mississippi, Trump labeled the semi-annual clock change as “ridiculous” and claimed it “drives everyone crazy.” He argued that people prefer more evening daylight instead of morning light, and expressed frustration with constantly adjusting clocks.
Trump criticized the Senate’s inaction on the Sunshine Protection Act. Although the House approved the bill earlier this year, it remains stalled in the Senate. Without Senate action, daylight saving time will end as scheduled, which Trump believes disappoints many Americans.
On Truth Social, Trump reiterated his position, stating: “The United States Senate is letting the Daylight Saving Bill die, when a vast Majority of the Country want it. Most people are demanding light in the evening, but ALL want not to change their clocks anymore.”
