For the first time since 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers have emerged victorious in a World Series game. The Brewers won Game 1 of the Fall Classic against the Tampa Bay Rays, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Milwaukee’s baseball team ended the long wait for World Series action as they faced an equally determined Tampa Bay squad. This nail-biting encounter saw bases loaded in the ninth inning with the Rays trailing by two runs. Following a tense scenario, Liam Hicks appeared to ground into a game-ending double play. However, a replay revealed that Brewers’ shortstop Cooper Pratt did not maintain contact with second base, changing the score to 3-2 with runners on second and third and two outs.
The Brewers inadvertently celebrated early before the call, filling the field with fog from fireworks. Johnny DeLuca then struck out to conclude the game, cementing the Brewers’ win.
The city of Milwaukee had waited 46 years to witness their team in the World Series again, and the 2026 Brewers took this opportunity seriously. Christian Yelich sparked a quick lead with an RBI triple, followed by William Contreras’ single, putting Milwaukee up 2-0 in the first inning. This was the end of their immediate scoring, as Tampa Bay’s pitcher Nick Martinez found his rhythm and completed five solid innings.
Equally formidable was Milwaukee’s pitching. Jacob Misiorowski, a strong contender for the Cy Young Award, limited the Rays to just one run over five innings. The Rays contributed with some baserunning mistakes, including Junior Caminero lining out and Jonathan Aranda being caught off second base. Additionally, Victor Mesa Jr.’s unsuccessful attempt to steal third marked the inning’s final out.
The Brewers made a similar blunder when David Hamilton attempted to stretch a double into a triple, failing at third.
Despite the misstep, the Brewers extended their lead in the seventh. After Hamilton advanced a runner into scoring position, Jackson Chourio hit an opposite-field single. This made the score 3-1, showcasing Milwaukee’s small-ball strategy that was effective throughout the regular season.
Next, Milwaukee will feature Logan Henderson on the mound in Game 2, while Tampa Bay entrusts Drew Rasmussen to pitch.
