Katie Zacharia Reflects on Her Brief Tenure as White House Press Secretary

Former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia shared insightful takeaways from her short stint leading the communications team during the Trump administration. She highlighted three key lessons: remaining true to personal values, concentrating on work tasks, and resisting being defined by critics.

Zacharia, previously a conservative commentator and communications adviser for President Donald Trump’s Truth Social, took over as White House press secretary on October 9 after Karoline Leavitt stepped down. Her initial press briefing occurred on October 13, leading up to her dismissal on October 16. Despite the brevity of her appointment, her time in the role sparked controversy, including criticism for her unsuccessful California bar exam attempt.

President Trump ended her tenure last Friday, mentioning unfair media treatment towards her. Zacharia expressed gratitude for the opportunity, sharing her experiences with the New York Post. She regarded serving under Trump as an honor, and valued that her children could witness her accept a prestigious position.

Answering the president’s call to serve was an honor, and my kids were able to see their mom step up for one of the most sought-after jobs in the world, she said. I’m proud I said yes, stood firm in what I believe, and kept supporting the president even when the circumstances weren’t ideal for me, showing my children what courage looks like in the face of criticism.

The search for Zacharia’s replacement is ongoing, with Trump yet to announce a new press secretary. Influential conservatives, including Laura Loomer and George Santos, have expressed interest in the role. Santos, a former congressman ousted amid scandals, mentioned on X his eagerness to serve if given the chance.

Loomer, known for her conservative commentary and advisory role for Trump, also offered herself as a viable candidate, proposing her name for the position on X.

Reflecting on her departure, Zacharia faced scrutiny related to remarks made during her first briefing and her bar exam results. On Friday, Trump remarked on encouraging her to reassess if the press secretary position was suitable for her. Zacharia later thanked Trump via a public post on X, acknowledging his admirable qualities and efforts to improve America.

President Trump is a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man, she stated. I wish more Americans appreciated him. No one will ever make America great the way he has and continues to. It was an honor to work for him.
