Rep. Jared Golden, a Democrat from Maine, has publicly endorsed his colleague, Republican Rep. Mike Lawler of New York, for re-election. This endorsement comes through an opinion piece ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Golden emphasized that the Congress elected largely determines the effectiveness of governance, stressing the need for representatives who focus on legislation rather than theatrics. Golden highlighted Mike Lawler as a reliable partner and advocate for fishing families, despite not being their direct representative.
Golden has served in the House of Representatives since early 2019. He announced last year his decision not to seek re-election in 2026. In contrast, Rep. Lawler, who began his term in 2023, is actively pursuing re-election this year.
It’s an honor and a privilege to accept the endorsement of my friend, Democratic Congressman Jared Golden,
Lawler stated in a post on X, expressing gratitude for the support.
Lawler remarked on their ability to find common ground on various issues despite belonging to different political parties and states. He advocated for prioritizing constituents’ needs over party interests.
Currently, Lawler faces Democratic candidate Cait Conley in the upcoming election for New York’s 17th Congressional District. Conley brings her experience as a combat veteran and as a director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council.
Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg recently participated in a rally supporting Conley. He expressed his backing for her candidacy in a post on social media.
