Chicago Bears Facing Quarterback Challenges with Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent

The Chicago Bears received positive updates regarding Caleb Williams’ hamstring injury. However, the franchise quarterback is still expected to miss some playing time. Fans may not see typical backup Tyson Bagent in the upcoming Week 3 game.

Bagent is undergoing concussion protocol, according to NFL Network. This raises questions about his availability for “Monday Night Football” against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Caleb Williams remains a possibility, as head coach Ben Johnson has not completely ruled him out. Yet, with Bagent’s uncertain status, the Bears may need to turn to their third-string quarterback.

Case Keenum, a veteran, could step in for his first NFL start since 2023. In their recent game, Bagent replaced Williams in a rainy 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He was sacked by Dallas Turner on the game’s final play, ending a potential game-winning opportunity.

“He’s right now working through every avenue that he’s got available to get back on track here,” Johnson told reporters.

Bagent, an undrafted quarterback, demonstrated his skills during his rookie 2023 season with a 2-2 record in starts. Since Williams’ draft as the first overall pick in 2024, Bagent has served as the team’s backup, without needing to start due to Williams’ full 17-game participation over two years.

If Keenum takes the field, it would be his eighth NFL team. He has completed 66 starts across 80 career games, last appearing in the NFL regular season in 2023 with the Houston Texans. That year, he posted a 1-1 record in starts, following a 2-0 stint with the Cleveland Browns in 2021.
