Georgia’s Youngest Mayor, Jayden Williams, Removed Amid Controversy

Jayden Williams, the former Mayor of Stockbridge, Georgia, was unexpectedly removed from office this month after facing scrutiny for alleged misconduct. Speaking to WSB-TV, Williams expressed his surprise at the removal, stating, “I didn’t expect this. You know, maybe a censure, but definitely not a removal.”

At 23, Williams made history as the youngest mayor of Stockbridge. However, his term lasted less than a year. Allegations of misused city funds and an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old high school student marred his brief tenure.

When questioned by WSB-TV about the relationship’s appropriateness, Williams admitted, “I would have to somewhat agree to that.” Despite this, he asserted, “There was no violation of the oath. I wasn’t even mayor yet.” He clarified that the relationship did not involve sexual activity.

NBC News reported Williams admitted to exchanging nude photos, explaining during a city council meeting, “That’s not abnormal for somebody my age.” A police report stated no criminal violations occurred, as the student was legally an adult in Georgia.

Regarding financial misconduct, Williams acknowledged using city funds for personal items. He explained these expenses came from the mayor’s reallocated $5,000 annual budget, not the city’s general fund. “It was not intentional and I paid it back immediately,” Williams stated to WSB-TV.

He later replaced his city purchasing card to prevent confusion with his personal card, as reported by Fox 5. Williams initially pursued the mayoral office while attending Clark Atlanta University. His time as mayor ended with impeachment by the Stockbridge City Council earlier this month.
