Trump’s Reaction to WHCA Dinner Shooting Incident

Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared fresh insights into President Donald Trump’s immediate response to the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. During an episode of “Hang Out with Sean Hannity,” Leavitt described Trump’s eagerness to return to the event despite the danger he had narrowly escaped.

Leavitt recounted Trump’s determination to rejoin the gathering, stating, “He was like a caged lion backstage, ready to return to the ballroom.” Her own reluctance contrasted with Trump’s insistence, as she noted her hesitation in wanting to go back out.

This event, which originally took place at the Washington Hilton, was marred by an alleged assassination attempt. The dinner was scheduled for April 25, 2026, but had to be relocated to the Waldorf Astoria due to security breaches. A gunman, identified as Cole Allen from Torrance, California, allegedly breached the hotel, targeting Trump officials while sparing FBI Director Kash Patel.

The emergency response was swift. Trump and Vice President JD Vance were quickly evacuated by Secret Service agents. Allen was apprehended shortly after, with reports suggesting his manifesto included intentions against Trump administration officials.

Despite the chaos, Trump was eager to resume the event. He posed questions to his security detail about returning and expressed his willingness to wait as long as needed. Leavitt detailed how officials started planning to continue the dinner, highlighting Trump’s desire to address the public soon after the incident.

Following the event, Trump held a press conference at the White House, providing an account of how the shooting unfolded. This incident also invigorated his proposal to construct a ballroom at the White House, aiming to offer a secure official event space. Trump joined the rescheduled dinner in July.

Leavitt’s complete interview can be accessed on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple. Nora Moriarty reports for Fox News Digital.
