Construction Rig Topples in Miami, Injuring Four

A construction rig collapsed in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood on Monday, affecting several vehicles and a construction container. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. near Southeast 12th Street and Brickell Bay Drive. Miami Fire Rescue responded promptly to the accident.

The fire department reported that four individuals were hospitalized in stable condition. The department’s Technical Rescue Team successfully freed two workers trapped inside a crushed construction container.

Fire Chief Robert Hevia provided details during a news conference. He confirmed that firefighters rescued two workers, aged 27 and 29, from the container. Crews also extinguished a fire that broke out when the rig impacted a BMW. The BMW’s driver managed to escape safely before the fire grew.

Alongside the BMW, two other parked vehicles were damaged, though they were unoccupied at the time. Hevia noted that all 18 workers present at the site were safe and accounted for.

The site of the collapse is intended to host billionaire Ken Griffin’s future Citadel headquarters. While officials have not revealed the cause of the collapse, OSHA is currently investigating.

The Miami Police Department advised motorists to steer clear of the affected area due to road closures. Authorities are urging drivers to seek alternative routes and exercise caution.

Further updates from Miami Fire Rescue and Citadel were not available at the time of reporting. The investigation into the cause of the rig’s failure continues.
