Seattle Seahawks Triumph Over Patriots With Fourth-Quarter Comeback

The Seattle Seahawks faced a challenging situation in the third quarter against the New England Patriots, trailing 10-0. Starting quarterback Sam Darnold exited early due to a hip injury, leaving Drew Lock to step in as backup. Initially, Lock struggled, with his first four drives resulting in punts.

However, the momentum shifted late in the third quarter. Lock led a 31-yard drive that culminated in a field goal, putting Seattle on the scoreboard. His performance improved markedly in the fourth quarter. Lock connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 45-yard touchdown pass, bringing the Seahawks within reach.

Lock continued to guide Seattle, orchestrating another drive that resulted in a field goal. This put Seattle ahead 13-10 with just under six minutes left in the game. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye’s third interception in the fourth quarter secured Seattle’s victory.

After the game, Lock spoke to NBC, emphasizing the importance of avoiding turnovers. “I know what kind of defense we have,” Lock said. “If I take care of the football and win the turnover battle, by the end of the game, I’d like to think we’d have a pretty good shot at winning.” Lock ended the game completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards, with one touchdown, plus contributing 13 rushing yards. Crucially, he avoided turnovers, key to Seattle’s comeback with their backup quarterback.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald shared that tests ruled out a fracture for Darnold. Though further evaluations are pending, this suggests Darnold might not be sidelined for long.
