Controversy Surrounds Michigan Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed

Controversial Alliance

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed collaborates with left-wing influencer Hasan Piker, despite Piker’s history of offensive remarks about 9/11 and accusations of antisemitism. Piker has suggested that America ‘deserved’ the 9/11 attacks. This partnership is causing concern among some Democrats and may affect El-Sayed’s chances in the Michigan Senate race, potentially alienating swing voters.

Campaign Schedule and 9/11 Remembrance

As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, El-Sayed’s public campaign agenda omits a memorial event but includes attendance at a Mexican festival, a farmers market, and a county fair. The campaign stated that El-Sayed would attend a 9/11 remembrance event, though this was not reflected on the campaign’s website. A statement emphasized that El-Sayed recognizes September 11th as a devastating attack on America’s freedom.

Fiesta Mexicana and Other Events

Fiesta Mexicana is a three-day celebration featuring mariachi, folklórico, and food vendors, aimed at promoting Mexican culture in West Michigan. The Allegan County Fair offers live entertainment, food, and games. Although Fox News Digital identified four events on the campaign schedule—Fiesta Mexicana, the farmers market, the county fair, and a campaign tour—the campaign clarified El-Sayed would skip two, without specifying which.

Historical Comments and Complicated Relationship with 9/11

El-Sayed has made contentious statements about 9/11, comparing it with January 6th events and equating former President Trump with Osama bin Laden. Previous blogs and social media posts reveal contradictory views. In past posts, he has compared the public’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic with that of 9/11 and expressed sympathy for those affected by America’s War on Terror.
