Musician and Family Tragically Killed Near Mexico City

A musician, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and the family’s nanny were tragically found shot and killed in a residential building near Mexico City. The State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office reported the discovery in the Zona Esmeralda area of Atizapán de Zaragoza. An unharmed 6-year-old boy was also found at the scene.

The victims were identified as a 38-year-old music producer and composer, with initials J.S.M.O., his 35-year-old pregnant wife, their young daughter, and a 21-year-old woman. The statement from the prosecutor’s office, shared on X, detailed the grim situation.

Mexican musician Jonathan Meléndez, from the band Camilo Séptimo, was among those killed, alongside his family and their nanny.

Authorities found two of the victims bound. The 3-year-old and others suffered gunshot wounds to the head, while the fourth victim was shot in the back. The prosecutor’s office confirmed this based on a statement translated from Spanish. Investigators believe the tragic event occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 1, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.

Two suspects, Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N,” have been arrested in connection with the killings. Billboard confirmed Jonathan Meléndez’s identity as a keyboardist for Camilo Séptimo. The band mourned his loss, sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram.

“We will always remember Honas with immense love and gratitude,” the band stated, honoring his life and contributions to music.

While a motive remains undisclosed, authorities described one suspect as an “associate of J.S.M.O.” Police believe the suspects exploited a trust relationship to access the victims’ residence.

Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of security and citizen protection, highlighted quick action taken by authorities. In a Facebook statement, Harfuch promised to bring the suspects to justice.
