Minneapolis Apartment Shooting Leaves Two Civilians Dead, Two Officers Injured

Authorities in Minnesota have disclosed the identities of victims involved in a shooting incident at a Minneapolis apartment complex. The event resulted in the deaths of two civilians and injuries to two police officers.

The civilians killed were identified as Dale Henry Spry, 63, and Muse A. Afrah, 61, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). Reports indicate that one individual died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries at a hospital. Both were believed to be residents of the apartment complex.

The shooter, identified as Carlton Neal Johnson II, 35, opened fire before being killed in a gunfight with police. A preliminary autopsy revealed multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was registered as a homicide.

The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officers injured were Joseph Michnowski, a five-year veteran, and Yahye Ahmed, who had served nearly two years. Ahmed was discharged from the hospital the following day, while Michnowski remained hospitalized, according to Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson.

A public information officer, Garrett Parten, stated that both injured officers suffered non-life-threatening wounds. One officer was shot in the leg and underwent surgery. A third officer, Ernest Boateng, sustained injuries from glass while breaking a window of a locked police vehicle. His injuries were not from gunfire, and he was released after evaluation.

The BCA reported that at least one officer, Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, fired a weapon during the incident. The investigation is continuing to determine if other officers discharged their firearms.

The incident began during a domestic dispute involving a child custody exchange. Johnson reportedly shot a woman with whom he had a prior relationship outside the building. He then entered the apartment complex, shooting another facility worker and two residents on the ninth floor who later died.

Court records obtained by Fox9 Minneapolis revealed that Johnson was facing eviction from the property. Authorities have not confirmed if the victims were targeted specifically.
