Lindy Li, who once raised funds for the Democratic Party but distanced herself after her concerns about President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline were ignored, has spoken out about the leadership void affecting the party. She argues that this gap has allowed the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to gain traction, becoming a significant force within the party by 2026.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Li described the DSA’s rise as a result of power filling a vacuum. She noted that the DSA has consistently pushed candidates to adopt more leftist platforms, a process she personally experienced during her 2018 congressional race. Li is preparing to launch her new book, “Unburdened,” which explores the party dynamics.
These over-educated bums, which populated the DSA — that’s what they are — basically forced me to adopt its platform by handing me a questionnaire and saying, ‘everyone in this congressional race must fill out this questionnaire,’
Li described feeling compelled to complete the questionnaire, which later labeled her with positions she never claimed, impacting her public record. She noted that the tactic is how the DSA ensures compliance and influences candidate platforms.
Reflecting on the 2026 political landscape, Li pointed to the established Democratic leadership’s lack of momentum compared to previous cycles. She highlighted how, by this stage in 2006, candidates like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were already prominent figures. In contrast, the current leadership appears fragmented and ineffective.
Li specifically criticized Ken Martin, the Democratic Party chair, for failing to provide the necessary leadership. She pointed to financial issues within the party, noting that the Democratic National Committee secured a $15 million loan using its headquarters as collateral, reflecting the party’s dire financial state.
Although she now identifies as a conservative, Li recalls her numerous warnings about the DSA’s influence on the Democrats, which she believes has been detrimental. She appeared in a Fox News documentary in 2020 to caution against the DSA’s impact on the party’s structure and policies.
