Kelani Jordan’s journey to the top of the WWE NXT women’s division has been long and challenging. On Sunday night, she achieved her goal by defeating Kendal Grey in a memorable match to claim the NXT Women’s Championship at Heatwave.
Throughout her career, Jordan expressed regret over missed opportunities. This time, she seized her chance. During the match, Jordan managed to drive Grey into the turnbuckle when the latter was on the apron. As Grey’s momentum pulled her back into the ring, Jordan executed a precise split-legged moonsault, pinning Grey for the championship win.
Kendal Grey made multiple attempts to overpower Jordan. She delivered an avalanche reverse Spanish Fly and targeted Jordan with her knee as they fought on the ropes. Despite the pressure, Jordan persevered and secured her first title reign as NXT women’s champion.
Jordan’s career is marked by previous titles, though she had not held the NXT Women’s Championship before. She was the inaugural NXT women’s North American champion and briefly held the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) Knockouts Championship.
Jordan’s reign as the NXT Women’s North American Champion ended in a gauntlet match against Fallon Henley at Halloween Havoc 2024. Her TNA Knockouts title was lost to Lei Ying Lee in a triple-threat match at NXT Gold Rush last November.
In a one-on-one confrontation with Grey, Jordan successfully utilized her gymnastics expertise to counter Grey’s wrestling strength. This combination proved effective and allowed Jordan to emerge as the winner.
