The conflict between Iran and the U.S. has intensified, with significant developments observed recently. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps announced it targeted U.S. military bases located in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. This move was in retaliation for U.S. strikes, marking the first American attacks on Iran in weeks.
U.S. Central Command reported that strikes were conducted against Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, situated in the Strait of Hormuz. In a related incident, Iran’s IRGC claimed a supertanker was halted in the Strait due to sea mines; the vessel caught fire, as quoted by Reuters. This incident underlines the renewed hostilities in the ongoing six-month war, following an announcement by the Trump administration stating a shift to “economic warfare” with new sanctions.
President Trump shared an AI-generated video on Truth Social depicting Kharg Island under attack, insinuating threats to Iran’s oil hub. However, there is no confirmed attack on Kharg Island, which remains Iran’s primary oil export terminal. The U.S. military confirmed a strike on Larak Island in the past week.
The National Iranian Oil Company CEO assured that operations on Kharg Island continue as normal, contradicted by previous reports of potential disruptions.
Iranian military sources also reported a supertanker struck by naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Reuters. The IRGC accused the vessel of illegally attempting passage through this crucial waterway. Previously, a UK Navy report stated a tanker faced an unverified attack in the region, highlighting ongoing threats.
In Jordan, the Jordanian Armed Forces intercepted eight missiles entering its airspace. All missiles were destroyed without any damage, as confirmed by local media and sources connected to CBS News.
The IRGC asserted responsibility for attacking U.S. military bases in Jordan, specifically targeting King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases. They claimed the destruction of infrastructure and fighter jet deployment sites, and additionally targeted U.S. personnel in the United Arab Emirates.
The U.S., in response, targeted two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island. Captain Tim Hawkins from U.S. Central Command noted that IRGC forces were preparing for further military interventions in the Strait of Hormuz. Admiral Brad Cooper stated that U.S. forces had cleared all sea mines from the shipping lanes in the strait.
Iran conveyed its disapproval through a state broadcaster, mentioning casualties among its fighters due to U.S. strikes. These developments indicate growing tensions and the potential for further confrontations.
