The Los Angeles Lakers are undergoing another change in ownership. Just 14 months after being bought at a record $10 billion valuation, Mark Walter is selling the team. The new owners will be Bob Iger, former Disney CEO, and Joshua Kushner. This transaction values the team at over $12 billion, according to a source familiar with the details who wished to remain anonymous.

Joshua Kushner, who holds a minority stake in the Miami Heat, is the younger sibling of Jared Kushner. In a joint statement, Iger and Kushner expressed their excitement, saying, “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world.” They further acknowledged the influence of Jerry and Jeanie Buss, pledging to build on the team’s foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve the team, fans, and Los Angeles.

Mark Walter, who also owns the Los Angeles Dodgers, described owning the Lakers as a tremendous honor and a significant investment. “What I will carry with me is the community, the fans, and a city that treats this team as a family,” Walter stated.
