The video revealed a man embracing the crying infant. Though his arms were covered in blood and he remained trapped, the child was eventually freed. The rescuers, five in number, carefully extracted the baby and called for medical assistance while celebrating the successful rescue.
The original video showed the volunteers continuing efforts to liberate the man still buried under the debris. Brian Osorio Zuluaga, who posted these moments on Facebook, reflected on the profound impact of experiencing such an unforeseen event. He noted, “A helping hand can make the difference between life and death.” His post emphasized the unity and urgency in rescue efforts following the quake’s devastation.
Search and rescue teams, along with volunteers, faced a race against time to save lives across the impacted regions. Authorities confirmed a death toll of at least 181 people, with 2,595 injured. Approximately 4,000 people remained missing according to civilian databases.
The international community responded swiftly. The United States committed over $15 million in aid. Mexico pledged to send multiple search and rescue teams, medical supplies, and essential equipment. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced plans to send 100 tons of aid, expressing solidarity by saying, “Our prayers are with the families of the victims, the wounded, and all the Colombian people.”
