Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. His visit coincided with the first anniversary of a tragic shooting that disrupted the agency and resulted in the loss of a police officer’s life.
During his visit, Kennedy commended the scientists at the CDC for their contributions and efforts. Many in the room, however, found his expressions of thanks challenging to accept. This was due to his past criticisms of the CDC and his role in federal cuts last year that affected hundreds of positions within the agency.
Kennedy not only praised the CDC staff but also called for a balanced approach to scientific trust. He encouraged maintaining a level of skepticism towards scientific authorities, advocating for a thorough examination of scientific claims.
