U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee warns this trepidation stems from “biblical ignorance” and a misunderstanding of “America First.” Speaking ahead of the U.S. Israel Education Association’s 15th anniversary, Huckabee dismissed the idea that prioritizing America involves dismissing allies. Instead, he believes support for Israel aligns with U.S. interests and religious convictions of many Christians.
“When I look at the things on the right, I see biblical ignorance,” Huckabee stated. “People who claim God no longer has promises for the Jewish people, I think ‘that’s news to God because He doesn’t break promises.'” As a former Arkansas governor and ordained Baptist minister, Huckabee brings a unique perspective to these topics, influenced by both politics and faith.
He also countered claims that Israel does not welcome Christians or allow free worship, noting he regularly participates in his church’s praise band without issue.
Right-wing media figures and some podcast hosts, like Joe Rogan, have expressed skepticism or hostility towards Israel. Huckabee believes some conservatives misinterpret the “America First” movement as isolationist. He explained that America’s interests extend beyond its borders, especially regarding enemy threats.
Specifically, he highlighted the ongoing threat from Iran, which has long called for “death to America.” Huckabee cited Iranian proxies globally as further reasons why the U.S. must remain attentive to international events.
Huckabee maintains America’s interests lie in being aware of threats like Iran, stating, “Their message to murder us hasn’t changed. Ignoring a 47-year-long threat is foolish.”
