Justin Baldoni addressed the public on Wednesday about the legal issues surrounding the film “It Ends With Us.” In a short video shared on Instagram, he appears with his wife, Emily, expressing how gratitude helped them navigate the crisis. His remarks follow accusations from actress Blake Lively. She claimed sexual harassment during the movie’s production, and also alleged retaliation by Baldoni’s company, Wayfarer Studios.
Many of Lively’s claims, including harassment and defamation, were dismissed by U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman. Because Lively was considered an independent contractor and not an employee, she could not pursue these claims under federal civil rights law. Some charges remained, including breach of contract and retaliation, but a settlement was reached before the case went to trial.
In the couple’s video, Baldoni did not directly mention Lively or the film. Instead, he discussed the personal impact of the dispute. He shared, “There have been painful things spoken into existence over the last couple of years. We didn’t want to add to the noise.” Emily also noted, “The truth and facts have spoken for themselves.”
Lively made these allegations public in December 2024, following the film’s release. Initially, she brought the matter to the California Civil Rights Department before taking it to federal court. This case attracted significant attention in Hollywood, revealing private communications among celebrities and exposing internal studio discussions.
Baldoni, known for his role on “Jane the Virgin,” has largely withdrawn from public life since facing these accusations. Residing now in Nashville, Tennessee, he has halted his entertainment career. His recent Instagram post was nearly three years ago.
In January 2025, Baldoni filed lawsuits against Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, claiming defamation and extortion. However, his suit was dismissed. Lively continued to pursue financial restitution based on California Civil Code Section 47.1, which protects those making allegations of misconduct from extortion charges.
In their video, Baldoni acknowledged the support they’ve received. “Thank you does not feel like enough,” Justin shared, expressing gratitude towards their friends and family. Emily added that their current focus is “healing and enjoying life with their children.”
