Russia launched multiple missile and drone attacks on Kyiv overnight into Monday, causing significant casualties and damage. According to authorities, these attacks resulted in at least seven deaths. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned of an imminent large-scale attack just hours before the event.
As Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, reported on Telegram, 24 people were injured. The Podilskyi district witnessed the partial collapse of a residential building, while several buildings in the Darnytsia district suffered damage, with some residents feared trapped under debris.
The strikes consisted of waves of ballistic and cruise missiles, coupled with drone assaults. Early Monday morning, explosions were still echoing through the city, and civilians took refuge in metro stations.
These attacks come only days after a previous Russian strike killed 31 people in Kyiv. Facing these renewed threats, President Zelenskyy implored Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses by increasing their supply of Patriot missiles. He emphasized that not reinforcing these defenses could embolden Russia to continue its four-year conflict.
