D.C. Congressional Race Heats Up as Long-time Delegate Retires

District of Columbia Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has announced her retirement, igniting a competitive race for the non-voting congressional seat representing D.C. Holmes Norton, who has served since 1991, faced increasing pressure to step down.

Democrats vying for the position include Robert White, a current at-large councilmember and former mayoral candidate, and Brooke Pinto, a city councilmember. They are leading the Democratic primary among a crowded field.

On the Republican side, attorney Denise Rosado is expected to be the GOP nominee.

This primary election is significant as it introduces ranked choice voting to the district for the first time. Polls are set to close at 8 p.m. EDT.
