A legal development arose regarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the attacks. Lt. Col. Michael Schrama dismissed a 2007 confession by Mohammed. It was found not given voluntarily. This decision complicates the trial process, which is set for June 2028.
