The annual Emmy Awards are set to air Monday night, with the ceremony hosted by Mariska Hargitay, star of Law & Order: SVU. This year marks the 78th edition of the awards, taking place in Los Angeles.
Changes in the Ceremony
The Television Academy has expanded and renamed what used to be the Creative Arts Emmys into a two-night event. This extension now recognizes categories like casting, guest actors, game shows, documentaries, and contributions from behind-the-scenes craftspeople.
Rob Reiner received a posthumous award for his guest role on The Bear. Additionally, Hargitay, the evening’s host, won two awards for her documentary titled My Mom Jayne.
Event Details
The main ceremony will feature 19 awards. These include accolades for best comedy series, best drama series, and awards for outstanding actor and actress in both categories.
The event will be live on NBC and Peacock at 8 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. PT. Prior coverage and pre-show events will begin on E! at 5 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. PT.
Nominations
For top comedy series, returning favorites like Hacks, Abbott Elementary, and The Bear are joined by new entries such as Widow’s Bay and Margo’s Got Money Troubles. Drama series nominees see last year’s winner The Pitt competing with Pluribus, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, among others. This year, several actors from The Pitt have earned their first nominations, as have Dale Dickey and Kate O’Flynn from Widow’s Bay.
