Zelensky Criticizes Trump’s Diesel Deal with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has openly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump over his decision to strike a diesel deal with Russia. Supported by his allies, Zelensky argues that Trump’s actions display weakness in dealing with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky contends that the rising diesel prices are due to the U.S.’s ongoing conflict with Iran, not Ukrainian attacks on Russian resources. In an interview with Fox News’s Bill Hemmer, Zelensky emphasized that the high cost of diesel stems from the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, challenging Trump’s narrative centered on Ukrainian involvement.

Trump’s move to lift sanctions on Russian diesel exports aimed to lower U.S. prices ahead of midterm elections. However, this approach faced criticism from Ukrainian supporters. Fox News personalities, including Mark Levin and Brian Kilmeade, expressed their opposition, highlighting Putin as the main barrier to peace in Eastern Europe and condemning cooperation with Russia.

Economic Repercussions

The backlash over Trump’s decision coincides with other significant geopolitical developments. Oil prices rose following attacks on Saudi Arabian airports by Iranian-supported Houthis. Brent Crude, a global benchmark, reached nearly $106 per barrel, reflecting market reactions.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed uncertainty regarding the outcome of the Iran conflict as it approaches its eighth month. Bessent explained that Iran is struggling financially and unable to pay its soldiers, creating further instability in the region.

Other Defense Developments

In a separate move, the Pentagon and the Small Business Administration signed an agreement to improve access to capital for small businesses in the U.S. defense sector. This initiative builds on the Smaller War Plants Commission to empower suppliers and manufacturers.

The Archdiocese for the Military Services voiced its disapproval of the decision to livestream the execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan. Archbishop Timothy Broglio warned against actions that could mimic terrorist behaviors.
