Why Jenna Fischer Left TV for Podcasting

Rainn Wilson, known for his role in ‘The Office,’ believes cancel culture and political tensions make modern comedies tough to produce. He shared his views on the current state of comedy with Nicholas Ballasy from Fox News Digital.

Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly on ‘The Office,’ realized after the show ended in 2013 that acting wasn’t her long-term career. She joined ABC’s ‘Splitting Up Together’ in 2018 but found the workload hard to manage alongside family life.

“The hours were intense,” Fischer shared on the ‘Dinner’s On Me’ podcast. “Balancing 65 to 70 hours a week was challenging with young kids at home.”

Fischer’s experience led her to rethink her career goals. She concluded that leading or regularly starring in TV shows wasn’t suitable anymore.

When ‘Splitting Up Together’ didn’t last, Fischer teamed up with Angela Kinsey, her former co-star, to create the ‘Office Ladies’ podcast. They revisited episodes from ‘The Office’ and discussed memories from the show.

Fischer found podcasting allowed her to manage her time better and maintain a presence at her children’s events.

“Podcasting gave me steady income and flexibility,” she explained. “I could attend school events and be there for my family.”

Her new career became even more significant when she was diagnosed with Stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer in December 2023. Fischer revealed her condition publicly in October 2024, and following a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation, she announced she was cancer-free.
