ARLINGTON, Texas — The Chicago White Sox took control in the fourth inning against the Texas Rangers, securing a lead and ultimately winning the game with a score of 4-2.
The fourth inning featured a critical moment when the Rangers loaded the bases with no outs. White Sox starter Anthony Kay responded effectively by forcing Elias Díaz to ground out to third base, leading to a double play executed by Miguel Vargas. Although one run scored, Kay prevented further damage by striking out Alejandro Osuna to end the inning. Kay reflected on the moment, saying, “To escape that with only one run was huge. A great play by Vargas over at third, and then we were able to get out of it.”
Anthony Kay delivered a solid pitching performance, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings. He recorded four strikeouts and two walks, helping the Sox secure a victory in front of 31,127 fans at Globe Life Field. Manager Will Venable commended Kay’s game management, noting his competitiveness and successful handling of challenging situations.
The victory placed the White Sox back at the top of the American League Central, thanks to Cleveland’s loss to the Minnesota Twins. Chicago now holds a narrow one-game lead over the Guardians with a record of 54-47.
Offensively, Chase Meidroth played a pivotal role for the White Sox, earning four singles and two RBIs. Andrew Benintendi also contributed with two hits and two RBIs, while Braden Montgomery showcased his skills by walking, singling, and scoring three runs.
During the second inning, Montgomery walked against former Sox player Tyler Alexander, later advancing to third on a wild pitch. Meidroth brought Montgomery home, securing an initial lead. Meidroth emphasized the importance of contributing with runners on base, expressing satisfaction with his recent performance.
After the Rangers tied the game with a home run by Cam Cauley, the Sox regained their lead in the fourth inning. Meidroth’s single brought home Munetaka Murakami, while Benintendi followed with an RBI single that scored Montgomery.
In the sixth inning, Meidroth and Montgomery worked together effectively, leading to a run scored by Montgomery, thanks to Benintendi’s single.
The White Sox bullpen displayed a strong performance, delivering eight strikeouts without allowing any hits over the last four innings. Despite fielding errors in the sixth inning, reliever Jordan Hicks prevented any runs. Grant Taylor and Bryan Hudson further solidified the win with multiple strikeouts in the final innings. Hudson wrapped up the game with his fourth save, concluding a successful road trip.
