The Lake Washington School District is investigating an incident captured in a viral video involving a district employee. The video sparked controversy over remarks made by an individual identified as a high school nurse.
In the video, a woman identified as Kelsey Ballin, a nurse at Eastlake High School, was seen and heard making comments about Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was recently assassinated. The incident reportedly took place at a farmer’s market with individuals wearing Kirk ‘Freedom’ t-shirts.
A district spokesperson shared concerns received from the community about the nurse’s conduct. They emphasized that the views in the video do not represent those of the district, stating, ‘The district takes these concerns seriously. District leadership has initiated a review of the circumstances following established processes.’
Eastlake High School, serving grades 9 through 12, is part of the Lake Washington School District located in Sammamish, Washington. The district spokesperson underscored their commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment, expecting all employees to uphold professional standards and contribute to a culture of respect, dignity, and civil discourse.
While noting the rights and protections of employees as private citizens, the spokesperson mentioned balancing these principles in their approach to this matter. As it is an ongoing personnel matter, further details were not available.
