The Washington Commanders must adjust their offense without an essential player for the foreseeable future. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Monday that left tackle Laremy Tunsil will miss significant time due to surgery needed on his torn triceps.
Quinn stated, “It’s always tough to talk about a player missing time, especially a great player like Laremy. He is a fantastic teammate and will be missed. We can’t wait to have him back.”

The 32-year-old suffered the injury during a personal drill on Saturday, facing pass rusher Odafe Oweh. After the play, Tunsil kneeled and quickly went to the facility following a conversation with the training staff.
Earlier this year, the Commanders made Tunsil the highest-paid tackle in the NFL through a two-year, $60.2 million contract, earning him $30 million annually. Drafted by the Miami Dolphins as the 13th pick, Tunsil became a five-time Pro Bowler and demonstrated his skill as one of the NFL’s leading left tackles.
After three seasons in Miami, he moved to the Houston Texans in 2019, where he spent six years before joining the Commanders last season. He played 14 games during the previous season.
Quinn remarked, “He is truly at the peak of his career, excelling both in run and pass protection, making his absence significant.”
As a response, the Commanders will rely on Brandon Coleman to fill the gap. Coleman, who started 12 games at left tackle in 2024 during his rookie year, showed promise and started three games at the position last year.
Quinn expressed confidence, saying, “He’s played a lot of winning football at left tackle, and we know he’s poised for it. He’s had a remarkable offseason, instilling confidence in the team.”
The Commanders plan to give Coleman an extensive chance at the left tackle position while Andrew Wylie remains in his swing tackle role. Quinn, consulting with general manager Adam Peters, mentioned they don’t plan to seek free agency solutions currently.
