Rams head coach Sean McVay, however, dismissed any notion of pursuing Vea. In a statement on the “Up & Adams” show, McVay expressed admiration for Vea’s skills but indicated contentment with the current roster. “He’s a stud. I think that he is a great player that’s always been a problem to game plan against, but I think we feel good about our group right now,” McVay noted.

Despite McVay’s comments, the Rams are aggressively eyeing a Super Bowl push. Earlier in the offseason, they executed a monumental trade for Myles Garrett, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, noted for his record-setting 23 sacks in a season. The Rams boast a solid lineup, with 38-year-old quarterback Matthew Stafford and upcoming contract negotiations for Puka Nacua, their All-Pro receiver. Adding Vea to an already potent roster, which potentially includes the return of Aaron Donald, could enhance their defensive prowess. Age 31, Vea emerged from a challenging season with the Buccaneers. His stats—34 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery across 17 games—reflect a dip in performance. Notably, he maintained a consistent streak of four or more sacks annually over five seasons. Despite this, Vea’s 70.2 overall PFF grade ranked 20th among tackles, and his 51 total pressures were seventh-most in the NFL.

The Rams’ capability to acquire Vea hinges on what they can offer in trade and whether they meet his long-term contract demands.
