The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, along with his wife Usha Vance, announced the arrival of their fourth child. Alec Neel Vance, born on Sunday, adds to the family’s list of children, including Ewan, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabel, 4.
The announcement made by Vance on social media expressed joy and gratitude, stating, We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.
They extended thanks to the medical personnel at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House medical team for their support.
This is a milestone as Alec Neel Vance becomes the first child born to a currently serving vice president in over a century and a half. The last to experience such a joyous addition was Schuyler Colfax in 1870. Prior to Colfax, John C. Calhoun welcomed a son in 1829 during his vice presidency.
The news of the birth reflects JD Vance’s advocacy for increasing birth rates in America. Following the tragic death of his friend, activist Charlie Kirk, in 2025, Vance became more determined to promote this cause. His call for a higher birthrate was evident at the 2025 March for Life anti-abortion rally in Washington where he stated, I want more babies in the United States of America.
