Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has condemned the acts of vandalism targeting the National Mall, with significant damage reported at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Security has been increased, and seven individuals have been arrested in connection with these incidents. Burgum emphasized that such vandalism is an attack on the nation and perpetrators will be prosecuted fully.
President Donald Trump and his Interior Department have taken measures to address the recurring issue of algae in the Reflecting Pool. Photos shared by Trump on Truth Social show a clear and reflective pool, a contrast to previous conditions. He made a public call for identifying those responsible for the vandalism, including issuing a ‘Wanted’ notice for suspected individuals.
The Interior Department credited the use of advanced nanobubbler technology for effectively clearing algae from the Reflecting Pool. Greg Wischer, founder of Dei Gratia Minerals, highlighted how this technology has resolved problems that previous administrations could not. The National Park Service team is now completing vacuuming of dead algae from the pool.
The photos demonstrate the Reflecting Pool’s improved condition, with a clear view extending toward the Washington Monument. Trump’s administration has emphasized the success in maintaining the pool’s clarity, drawing comparisons to previous efforts, particularly under Barack Obama.
The issue of vandalism remains a concern, underscored by recent incidents at the Reflecting Pool. Secretary Burgum mentioned ongoing considerations about whether complete draining is necessary for repairs. Costs of refurbishment are being partly attributed to vandalism.
While critics point to the added expenses, Burgum noted the historical lack of vandalism at the site, despite its symbolic significance. Ensuring the preservation of such iconic landmarks remains a priority.
