A woman from North Carolina has gone missing during her visit to the Caribbean island of Grenada. The search for her has become urgent, with her family and friends desperately hoping for her return. Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, age 44, was last spotted at Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, close to her accommodation in the Grand Anse area, as reported by the Royal Grenada Police Force.
Waddell, a physical therapist from Raleigh, is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall with short blonde hair. Authorities have shared a photo of Waddell with pink hair as part of their plea to the public for help. Her professional website notes that she is the founder of Art of Movement Physical Therapy and holds a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“Liz Waddell is a kind-hearted, free-spirited person,” her husband mentioned in local interviews.
According to WRAL News, Waddell traveled to Grenada for vacation with a friend. Her friend stayed at their Airbnb for an online course, while Waddell ventured outside, likely for a swim. Amanda Romano-Harmon, a friend, shared her experience: “Liz had her swimsuit on and went outside. Her towel was left on the pier,” indicating she possibly went for a swim.
Concern grew when Waddell’s friend realized she was missing and filed a report as Waddell did not have her phone with her. Her husband, Cailen, learned about her disappearance while at work and quickly planned to travel to assist in the search. He encouraged anyone with ties to the island to share any helpful information.
The Royal Grenada Police Force is actively seeking information on Waddell’s whereabouts. They specifically ask fishermen, boat operators, and residents along Grenada’s southern coast to report any sightings. An extensive search effort includes police officers, divers, and university students.
The U.S. State Department is aware of the situation and states the safety of U.S. citizens abroad is a high priority. While privacy concerns prevent them from sharing additional details, they can aid families in filing reports and navigating local protocols.
Aradia Fitness, where Waddell also works, expressed their distress in a social media post, urging the community to pray for her safe return. Anyone with information is asked to contact local police stations, including the South Saint George Police Station, the Criminal Investigation Department, or use the emergency number 911.
