An unidentified object crashed and exploded in Polish territory during a night marked by extensive long-range Russian attacks on Ukraine. The Polish police reported that the object fell near Tarnawa-Kolonia village in Lublin province.
Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, stated the incident happened amidst Russia’s missile operations targeting western Ukraine. He noted that Polish airspace had been breached, though it remains uncertain if the object was a Russian missile.
The Polish army observed over a dozen missiles in western Ukraine, close to Polish airspace, throughout the night. Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed strikes using “long-range precision weapons from land, air, and sea,” along with attack drones, focusing on military sites in Ukraine.
Poland, being a NATO member, invokes Article 5, which considers an attack on one member as an attack on all. Russian drones and missiles have previously breached NATO territories during the Ukraine conflict. This latest incident challenges the alliance’s commitment to collective defense.
