Officials from the United States and China will focus on enhancing transparency in the realm of artificial intelligence during a summit scheduled in Washington this week.

On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent arrived in New York City to meet with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. This meeting took place in anticipation of a larger summit involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Discussions center on the potential establishment of a ‘notification mechanism’ aimed at monitoring national security incidents linked to artificial intelligence. Treasury Secretary Bessent highlighted the importance of this mechanism on Sunday night. The talks also included U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, indicating the significance of trade considerations alongside AI-related security discussions.
