On Tuesday, a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter from Fort Campbell in Kentucky unexpectedly landed in a wooded area near the Colorado foothills west of Denver. According to the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office, the helicopter came down north of Golden Gate Canyon State Park with four individuals on board. Fortunately, nobody suffered injuries.
CBS News reported that two Army officials confirmed there were no injuries from the incident. An Army spokesperson described the event as an ‘aviation mishap’ occurring during a training exercise. The helicopter is part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment based at Fort Campbell.
The Army has initiated an investigation into the incident. The Army issued a statement regarding the mishap, emphasizing the importance of safety. The statement indicated, “The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) is aware of the August 25, 2026, aviation mishap during regular training operations near Denver, Colorado. The command prioritizes the safety of personnel during all training incidents. As this is under active safety investigation, we cannot offer further comments or information presently.
