President Donald Trump will not attend the Sept. 11 ceremony at Ground Zero marking the 25th anniversary of the terror attacks. Reports indicate this decision stems from not being allowed to deliver a speech at the event. Instead, Trump will participate in a ceremony at the Pentagon, where he will give an address.

Vice President JD Vance will attend the New York ceremony in Trump’s place. This revelation came after Trump’s speech request was declined by leaders of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. The institution prioritizes maintaining a nonpartisan and apolitical nature during these annual commemorations, barring political speeches for over ten years.

A Gathering of Prominent Figures

At Ground Zero, the ceremony will welcome Mayor Mamdani, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and ex-presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Trump’s speech at the Pentagon follows his attendance at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas on Sept. 9 and 10, raising speculation that the address might lean towards a partisan tone.

Trump’s Upcoming Schedule

Following the Pentagon event, Trump plans to visit Ireland, where he owns a golf resort hosting the Irish Open. In 2024, Trump attended the Ground Zero memorial alongside Vance, President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign’s final stages. Although no speeches were given, Trump visited a fire station and met with FDNY firefighters.
