President Donald Trump has endorsed Jennifer Balkcom, the new Republican nominee for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District. Balkcom stepped into the race following the withdrawal of incumbent Rep. Chuck Edwards.
Trump shared his support on Truth Social, stating, “It is my great honor to endorse America First Patriot, Jennifer Balkcom, who is running to represent the wonderful people of North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District!”
Balkcom expressed gratitude to Trump in a social media post, writing, “THANK YOU, President Trump! I’m incredibly grateful for your support, and I’m proud to stand and fight for the people of Western North Carolina.” She emphasized her commitment to working on community rebuilding and making life more affordable for families in the area.
Previously, Trump had backed Edwards, who secured a decisive victory in the March 3 Republican primary. However, Edwards ended his re-election campaign on August 5, following a House Committee on Ethics report recommending censure.
The House Committee found that Edwards “engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers.”
The report indicated that although Edwards denied any romantic intent, his behavior, which included lavish gifts and personal comments, could be interpreted otherwise. Edwards’ conduct involved inviting the staffers to dinners, vacations, and other activities.
