A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Pine Township, resulting in the death of a man. The incident happened on Furnessville Road, as reported by the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, identified as a man of Hispanic descent, died when a tree fell on him. The case has been handed over to the Porter County Coroner’s Office. Efforts are underway to confirm the man’s identity, adhering to the standard procedure of notifying family members before releasing a name.
Authorities were alerted at 1:55 p.m. to the 200 block of Furnessville Road. Upon arrival, an officer spoke with a witness who stated three men approached him for assistance. Upon reaching the scene, the witness found the victim with his head trapped under the tree.
Despite the efforts of four men, including an attempt to use a chainsaw, they were unable to move the tree. The other three men had left the scene before the emergency personnel arrived, according to the sheriff’s report.
