Terri Clark’s Passion for Fishing

Terri Clark, a renowned figure in country music, shares an intense passion for fishing that has taken over her life, much to her band’s amusement. She humorously recounted in an interview how her band suggests therapy for her fishing knot practice sessions on the tour bus.

Clark attributes her interest in fishing to Instagram, where she frequently finds videos displaying techniques for creating the strongest fishing knots. This obsession, if it requires professional help, places her among distinguished company. Soon, she will participate in The Champions Celebrity Pro-Am on Old Hickory Lake near Nashville, alongside a top professional bass angler.

This event follows a championship featuring 60 elite anglers competing for a $3.25 million prize. With years of experience on Lake Erie, Clark is eager to see how her skills match up against professional standards. Despite others viewing her as a proficient fisherwoman, she humbly acknowledges the expertise of full-time professionals.

“They have no idea the level that these guys operate at,” she explained. “I’m going to be taking a master class in bass fishing, which will be super fun.”

Clark has a Humminbird MEGA Live 2 system that she hasn’t yet installed. She values technology but is cautious about spending too much time using it. Nonetheless, if her fishing expedition on Old Hickory Lake reveals some productive spots, she jokes about marking them for later use with her kayak.

Her current fishing fixation involves catching a 50-inch or larger musky. Despite efforts during a recent trip to Lake Erie, weather conditions and warm water temperatures thwarted her attempts. Undeterred, Clark remains determined, even planning trips to Tennessee’s Caney Fork River.

Clark cherishes Lake Erie’s diverse fishing experiences, which allow her to catch various species like bass, northern pike, and walleye. In 2022, she caught a notable 16-pound northern pike. Last summer, she celebrated comedian Kathleen Madigan’s success in catching a personal-best bass while fishing together.

Clark views fishing as a meditative practice, despite her unwavering focus that sometimes leads her to neglect basic needs. Her expertise extends to managing safety and conditions on Lake Erie, utilizing multiple weather apps for informed decisions.

Even during her music tours, the allure of fishing remains. She enjoys trips with guides or acquaintances on her days off, ensuring these adventures do not coincide with performance days to avoid disruptions.

Beyond the thrill of fishing, Clark finds tranquility in nature. Describing breathtaking moments like a sunrise over Lake Erie, she finds profound solace away from the spotlight, something she encourages other women and young girls to experience.

“I think that we need more female anglers out there,” she stated, advising beginners to start simple and gradually improve their skills.

Terri Clark continues her journey, chasing dreams of performing at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and landing that elusive 50-inch musky. When faced with choosing between these two aspirations, she playfully refuses to decide.
