The recent passing of Dolly Parton, a beloved figure in country music and a symbol of Tennessee, impacted many people deeply. This sentiment was visibly shared by residents of her home state, Tennessee.

On Saturday, the Tennessee Volunteers football team launched their 2026 season, with fans at Neyland Stadium honoring Parton’s memory.

Peyton Manning expressed his feelings, stating, ‘Tennessee won’t be the same without her.’

Prior to the game, it was announced that an orange butterfly decal featuring Parton’s name would adorn the back of each player’s helmet throughout the season. Head coach Josh Heupel explained the significance by highlighting Parton’s global impact and her deep connection with East Tennessee.

All that she’s meant across the world, this country, and certainly the Queen of East Tennessee… Her ability to give back, make an impact on people, certainly here in East Tennessee.

During the match against the Furman Paladins, further tributes took place. The most touching was when 102,000 fans united to sing Parton’s 1974 classic ‘I Will Always Love You.’ It was an emotional display that resonated with attendees.

Another tribute involved replacing Morgan Wallen’s ‘The Way I Talk’ with Parton’s ‘My Tennessee Mountain Home’ during the fourth quarter. Such tributes indicate the deep connection and admiration for Parton within the state.

The Tennessee Volunteers’ tribute during the season opener reflects how Parton was cherished by many, and these gestures are likely to become enduring traditions in her honor.
