Silicon Valley is preparing for intense scrutiny as Democrats are expected to take control of Congress. The industry’s previous attempts to align with President Trump have become a political problem.
After two years under Republican leadership in the House and Senate, Democratic lawmakers plan to investigate tech firms’ connections with Trump’s administration and propose AI safety regulations. At the beginning of Trump’s second term, several AI and defense tech firms sought alignment with his administration. Now, political strategists warn these efforts may lead to consequences in a Democrat-led Congress.
Democratic strategist Cooper Teboe noted that the tech industry faces potential investigations both officially and politically. He stated, “I suspect they have a significant number of investigations coming their way.”
While Silicon Valley traditionally leans left, engaging with incoming presidents from both parties has affected public perceptions of tech firms. A recent Politico poll shows Americans often perceive tech executives as Republican, even those like Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who clashed with the Trump administration on AI safety.
