Shania Twain Discusses Body Image and Self-Acceptance

Shania Twain recently spoke about the extreme measures she took to remain thin, which led to health problems. During an interview, she shared how her desire for thinness resulted in poor eating habits. ‘I was malnourished to be thinner,’ Twain confessed to The Times.

In 2019, menopause brought changes that Twain couldn’t control, prompting her to reassess her relationship with her body. She acknowledged that menopause made her feel out of control, leading her to a crisis of confidence. ‘I stopped looking at myself in the mirror,’ she said. ‘I hated my body. That was so unhealthy.’

Twain revealed that she engaged in intense exercise routines and eliminated sugar and fats from her diet. ‘I was doing very unhealthy things,’ she admitted, straining her body without proper nourishment.

Her journey through these challenges taught Twain the value of self-acceptance. ‘Now I’m like, bring on the mirrors, I’m going to look at myself all day long!’ she stated. Menopause, she shared, helped her learn to accept what she can’t control.

Twain’s rise to fame began with her 1995 album ‘The Woman in Me.’ Despite her success, she spent years feeling uncomfortable with her body. ‘I was very shy about my body from a young age,’ she told ‘Extra’ in 2023.

Twain also discussed the impact of her first hit, ‘You’re Still the One,’ released in 1998. She explained how the video for the song marked a step away from her everyday life, embracing freedom in her artistic choices.

Throughout her career, spanning over three decades, Twain’s influence has persisted in both country and pop music. Dubbed the ‘Queen of Country Pop,’ she has sold over 100 million records and remains a trailblazer for future crossover artists, all while navigating personal and health challenges.

Despite her long career, Twain remains enthusiastic about new experiences. ‘I’m not slowing down,’ she said. ‘I just keep finding new things that I love to do. There’s always something new.’
