Early Wednesday morning, firefighters in Seattle tackled a large fire at a commercial warehouse located in the city’s Industrial District. This incident occurred almost a day after another fire nearby in the Central District. The emergency response began just before 1 a.m. local time on the 4500 block of 7th Avenue S.
Seattle Fire Department Spokesman David Cuerpo reported at a press conference that the fire started with two tractor trailers that spread flames to the warehouse. On arrival, firefighters found several large metal and plastic barrels in and around a trailer. Due to safety concerns, they contained the fire from a distance. Cuerpo later informed that these barrels were empty.
“The warehouse roof partially collapsed around 1:15 a.m., which prevented firefighters from entering,”
stated Cuerpo. By 3:22 a.m., crews had extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing.
This event closely follows another commercial building fire from Tuesday morning in the Central District, approximately 20 minutes away on the 2700 block of E Madison St. That fire began around 3:22 a.m. and was extinguished by 5:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. Cuerpo confirmed that the cause of the previous day’s fire was accidental.
These back-to-back incidents called for swift action from Seattle’s emergency teams, and luckily, there were no casualties. Efforts to determine and address the causes continue.
