Sean Payton, formerly of the New Orleans Saints and now with the Denver Broncos, shared an emotional moment with an old friend. Despite Payton’s move to Denver, his bond with New Orleans remains strong.
Drew Brees, legendary quarterback for the Saints, reached out to Payton via FaceTime with a special request. Brees asked Payton to introduce him at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio.
“Honest to God, I can’t believe you just did that,”
Payton expressed emotionally, agreeing to the honor immediately. Brees responded warmly, “I can’t wait. I love you.” The gesture caught Payton by surprise, stirring deep emotions.
Reflecting on their 15 years together, Payton shared with reporters at Broncos training camp:
“A lot of times, for a number of reasons, those relationships — quarterback-coach — you kind of take for granted. Yet, sometimes, oftentimes, they don’t end the way you want them to end. I’m proud that it ended the way he wanted it to. I’m excited for him. As a coach, it’s an honor to be asked.”
Their partnership yielded significant success, notably winning the 2010 Super Bowl. Brees retired in 2020, leaving a legacy as second all time in passing yards, completions, and touchdowns.
Brees will join the Hall of Fame Class of 2026, alongside Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, Adam Vinatieri, and Roger Craig.
