Scottie Scheffler Dominates FedEx St. Jude Championship

Scottie Scheffler showcased his exceptional skills at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, winning by a significant margin of eight strokes against second-place golfer Si Woo Kim. After enduring five runner-up finishes last season, the victory in Memphis, Tennessee, was a well-deserved achievement for Scheffler.

Speaking with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis, Scheffler shared his thoughts on the win: “I’ve had some close calls this year. I feel like I’ve been playing well, but little things weren’t going my way.” Despite some setbacks, such as an unfortunate shot that rolled off a sprinkler system into nearby water, Scheffler stayed focused.

“Going into today, I just wanted to try to do my best, try and execute,” he said. “I did a good job of staying in it and bouncing back. I was able to kind of relax.”

This victory marked Scheffler’s first since the American Express Golf Tournament in January. Throughout the year, he secured second-place finishes at notable tournaments, including the 3M Open, Cadillac Championship, RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship, and The Masters.

Balionis highlighted how this season is statistically Scheffler’s best. When asked about his proudest achievement, Scheffler responded, “I think I’ve been really consistent. Outside of Amex, I didn’t play as well early in the year as I could have. I was battling my swing a little bit. But just staying consistent, staying in it each week is what I’m most proud of.”

Scheffler added, “It’s nice to be able to pay it off with a win this week. Statistics are one thing, but being able to win golf tournaments is another.” The latest victory not only secured his second win of the season but also his 21st career PGA Tour win.

This achievement places Scheffler among the golfing greats as the third-youngest player to reach 21 wins, trailing behind Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. Winning the St. Jude Championship elevated him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings, with Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young trailing behind.

This success suggests that Scheffler may have reclaimed his winning form after several near victories this season. He is set to compete at the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, aiming for another win.
