RJ Mitte, known for his role as Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on the acclaimed series “Breaking Bad,” has passed away at the age of 34, according to his representative. Details regarding the cause of his death have not been disclosed. Mitte portrayed the son of Bryan Cranston’s character, Walter White, a former teacher turned drug kingpin, and Skyler White, played by Anna Gunn. The series has been critically acclaimed as one of the greatest television shows.
Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, brought an authentic portrayal to his character, as he shared the same condition. His representative, Sean Riley, stated, “Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.” His dedication to representing disabilities won him a Screen Actors Guild Award for best drama ensemble with the “Breaking Bad” cast in 2014, marking the conclusion of the series.
Apart from his acting career, Mitte was a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities. He was committed to raising awareness for diverse conditions and championed for more authentic roles for people with disabilities in Hollywood. In recognition of his advocacy, Mitte was awarded the SAG-AFTRA Howard Russell Award in 2014, established in honor of the first actor with a disability to receive an Oscar.

According to Riley, “Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic efforts and community initiatives, while using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities.”
Notably, Mitte collaborated with Can Do Canines last year, an organization that offers service dogs in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Reflecting on his journey, Mitte once shared, “I’m very lucky with my disability that I have worked very hard to have the mobility I have today, but I see in many people’s lives, they don’t get the same opportunities.” His words echo his commitment to advocating for people with disabilities and fostering inclusivity.
