Massachusetts Representative Jake Auchincloss, who voted to end military aid to Israel, views the pro-Israel lobby’s removal of his fundraising link as a sign of his independence.
Auchincloss, a Marine veteran, represents New England’s largest Jewish district and has been explaining his vote in local synagogues. On Newsweek’s The 1600 podcast, he clarified that criticizing Israel’s government differs from abandoning the country.
Criticizing Netanyahu, Not Israel
Auchincloss, joined by Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie, voted against continued aid. AIPAC’s decision to drop his fundraising link was depicted as a badge of honor in Democratic primaries.
“I don’t take positions based on outside interests,” he stated. Auchincloss compares his role to a contact sport, requiring resilience and focus. Despite voting against military aid, he emphasizes a strong connection to Israel among the Jewish families he serves.
“I support Israel’s right to exist and defend against terrorism,” Auchincloss affirmed. He criticizes the management of the conflict under Trump and Netanyahu, suggesting it ultimately benefits Iran. He opposes further entanglement in prolonged Middle Eastern conflicts.
Drawing the Line Between Criticism and Antisemitism
Auchincloss acknowledges the challenge of distinguishing criticism of Israeli policy from antisemitism, urging a balanced discourse within the Democratic Party.
Tackling Broader Issues
In an interview clip featured on Fox News, Auchincloss accused Trump of weakening America through his policies. He ruled out reopening the Strait of Hormuz to Iran or ignoring its nuclear ambitions, denouncing a previous agreement as a poor foreign policy decision.
Auchincloss supports a Massachusetts initiative to construct starter homes on smaller lots, promoting homeownership. Additionally, he criticized the “buy, borrow, die” loophole, calling it “un-American.” For the 2026 midterms, he advised Democrats to prioritize living costs and accountability over impeaching Trump.
Though he has not ruled out future presidential runs, Auchincloss stated he won’t run in 2028. He remains committed to his role in Massachusetts’ Fourth Congressional District and shares his views through a newsletter on Substack.
