Time Jump in Westeros
We resume the story of Westeros two years later. The characters, however, continue right from where they left off. While you might need a recap of previous events, the people in Westeros certainly do not.
Opening Credits and Recap
The story begins with a tapestry depicting historical and recent events, such as the Doom of Valyria, Aegon’s Conquest, and more recent happenings from Seasons 1 and 2. Among these are significant events, including Aegon and Rhaenyra on their thrones and the death of Rhaenys.
Rhaena and Sheepstealer
The episode starts in the Vale, where Rhaena finally bonds with Sheepstealer, the wild dragon she has pursued. It’s a moment filled with mutual understanding, marked by Sheepstealer sharing his mutton with Rhaena.
The Two Princes’ Escape
In the Red Keep, Aemond discovers that King Aegon and Larys have secretly left, leading to impulsive reactions. Their carriage ride north is disrupted by soldiers loyal to Queen Rhaenyra. Aegon, struggling with withdrawal, cannot resist taunting them. They are ultimately spared and taken to Rhaenyra.
Rhaenyra’s Ambitious Plan
Rhaenyra plans her move to claim the throne in King’s Landing. Alicent offers Rhaenyra assurances about the safety of her venture, emphasizing that Aemond and his dragon, Vhagar, will be absent. Yet, her advisors suspect a trap.
King’s Landing Situation
In King’s Landing, Aemond claims power after Aegon’s departure. Queen Alicent becomes anxious about the incoming support for Aemond, including Ormund Hightower and Daeron, along with a large sea fleet.
Daemon’s Victories and Alliances
Daemon’s army defeats the Lannisters in the Riverlands. He is bolstered by Northmen called the Winter Wolves, led by Roderick Dustin, who presents the head of Jason Lannister to Daemon as a gesture of allegiance.
Conflict within the Dragonseeds
Dragonseeds Ulf, Hugh, and Addam remain on the Isle of Faces, awaiting Aemond. Their unease mounts with the arrival of Alys Rivers, as legends of mystical happenings on the Isle are well-known in Westeros.
Alicent’s Manipulations
Alicent pens a forged letter instructing Ormund Hightower to pause his advance. She further uses persuasion to convince Aemond to go to Harrenhal.
The Battle of the Gullet
The Triarchy fleet attacks the Black’s ships. Commander Corlys Velaryon and his son Alyn lead the defense. The battle sees involvement from dragons, including the new arrival, Rhaena on Sheepstealer.
Sharako Lohar leads the Triarchy forces, clashing with Corlys. Yet, an internal conflict leads Sharako to throw her allies overboard.
A Premature End for Jacaerys
Despite efforts to battle the Triarchy, Jacaerys succumbs to an attack. His dragon Vermax goes down after being struck again. Consequently, the battle concludes.
Additional Reflections
The episode marks the potential ends for some characters while leaving others’ fates uncertain. Deployments and alliances shift through strategic manipulations, leaving the audience keen for the next episode.
