Pasta distributed nationwide at Walmart is being recalled due to potential listeria contamination. The announcement was made by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Gias Foods, a company based in New York, is recalling two lots of its bettergoods brand Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine. This product is available in 22-ounce frozen packages with the UPC number 194346442706. The affected lot numbers are L6079C and L6080C, with expiration dates of September 19, 2027, or September 20, 2027.
The recall began on September 15 following findings from a routine sampling program conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. These findings indicated the presence of bacteria in the product. As of now, the company reports no illnesses related to the product.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeriosis symptoms usually appear within two weeks of consumption. Symptoms can include fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, seizures, and flu-like symptoms such as muscle aches and fatigue.
Gias Foods has temporarily halted distribution of the affected pasta while an investigation is conducted. Consumers who bought the product are advised to return it to the purchase location for a full refund.
